Will my dog be affected?

To date, there is no sure proof to determine the health of unborn puppies. Nevertheless, since hip dysplasia is an inherited disease, the occurrence of dysplasia in the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, as well as the breeding dog's siblings, will be indicators of whether or not your future puppy is likely to develop the disease.

Seven generations of our females and five generations of our males have been exempt from hip and elbow dysplasia. We use the most accurate tests available to help reduce to a minimum the odds that your new puppy will develop the disease and will lead a normal healthy dysplasia free life.

We very happy to see that the steps taken over the last 8 years have paid off, with less than 1% of our puppies (0.67%) being affected. (See our opinion on the various tests available) We are far below the statistics of the 'Ortopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) which ranks the Bernese Mountain Dog 50rd out of 142 breeds most commonly afflicted by the disease with 16,5%.
